Results Per Page WHAT IS POTASH What is Potash? We help support farmers rise to the challenge of feeding the world by producing potash. Potash, or potassium, is an essential ingredient in fertilizer and is one of the three primary crop nutrients required for plant and crop growth. Known as “the regulator” of crop nutrients, potash provides the following benefits to growing healthy plants: Protects plants from extreme temperatures and helps them to fight stress and disease Leads to the formation of a larger, deeper and stronger root system It stops wilting Assists in transferring food It helps plants use water efficiently HOW IT'S MINED Potash Mining Potash is brought to the surface from over a kilometre below ground using either solution or conventional mining. It is then processed in mills to separate potassium (K) into a unique product, of various sizes and forms, for use in fertilizer products. That product is transported for shipping via train or truck for use on crops around the world. Solution Mining: Hot salt water is injected into the potash layer over 3600 feet below surface. The salt water dissolves the potash and forms a cavity. The salt and the potash water are then pumped to cooling ponds and then to mills for processing. Conventional Mining: Mining machines extract ore from over 3,500 feet below the earth’s surface, which is then transported underground by a conveyance system and hoisted to surface for processing.
