Mosaic Invests $1.5 Million in Moose Jaw Community Partnerships During Saskatchewan Mining Week
The Mosaic Company is renewing its commitment to communities near its Belle Plaine potash operation with a $1.5 million investment in organizations serving Moose Jaw and the surrounding region. Announced during Saskatchewan Mining Week, the funding will support initiatives focused on health care, food security, and overall community well-being.
Located about 25 kilometres from Moose Jaw, Mosaic’s Belle Plaine site has long played an important role in the region—supporting hundreds of jobs, contributing to local businesses, and building partnerships with community organizations that make a difference in people’s daily lives.
“Moose Jaw is home to many of our employees and their families, and we are proud to support organizations doing essential work in this community,” said Marnel Jones, Director of Government and Public Affairs for Mosaic in Canada. “These partnerships reflect our ongoing commitment to improving access to health care, strengthening food security, and enhancing quality of life in the region.”
The announcement highlights the broader impact of Saskatchewan’s mining sector, particularly during Mining Week, when the industry’s contributions to communities across the province are recognized. An independent analysis by Economic Development Regina found that Mosaic’s Saskatchewan operations generate nearly $2 billion in annual economic activity and support approximately 8,400 jobs province-wide. These benefits extend into communities like Moose Jaw through employment, local spending, procurement, and ongoing investment partnerships.
Mosaic’s renewed funding will be distributed among four organizations working across key areas of need:
- Moose Jaw Health Foundation will use the funding to enhance patient care, including investments in diagnostic imaging and surgical upgrades—helping residents access care closer to home and reducing the need for travel.
- Moose Jaw & District Food Bank will modernize service delivery through improved digital tools, including online booking and intake systems, enhanced volunteer coordination, and stronger partnerships with grocery providers—ultimately improving access and client choice.
- Hunger in Moose Jaw will continue its work supporting vulnerable individuals and families through school lunch programs, community kitchens, garden plots, and food delivery initiatives.
- Wakamow Valley Authority’s Mosaic Community Food Farm will sustain its operations while planning for future growth, including potential orchard expansion and greenhouse development to increase access to fresh, locally grown food.
Leaders from each organization emphasized the tangible impacts of the partnership.
At the Moose Jaw Health Foundation, the investment will support critical upgrades that improve patient experiences and outcomes. Enhanced diagnostic and surgical capacity means more people can receive care locally, reducing travel burdens for families. For food security organizations, the funding comes at a time of increasing demand. The Moose Jaw & District Food Bank is focused on making services more accessible and dignified, using technology and partnerships to reduce waste, expand food choices, and reach more people—including those with mobility challenges.
Hunger in Moose Jaw continues to address food insecurity at a grassroots level, providing daily school lunches and community-based programming that supports families where they are. The organization also highlighted the importance of partners like Mosaic who contribute not only funding but also volunteer support and leadership within the community.
Meanwhile, the Mosaic Community Food Farm—operated by the Wakamow Valley Authority—plays a vital role in producing fresh food for low-income families and newcomers. With Mosaic’s continued support, the farm is planning for growth while maintaining its current production, which provides tens of thousands of pounds of food each growing season.
Across all initiatives, Mosaic emphasizes long-term partnerships built on understanding community needs and delivering meaningful, measurable outcomes.
